Upgrade from 1.7.5 or start again with a fresh install?

I have been using datatables 1.7.5 quite happily with the datatables.editable extension. Looking to update it along with the rest of my code I see how far behind I am!
Basically it would be easier to do a fresh reinstall wouldn't it? Would I now need to purchase Editor to keep the same CRUD functionality?

1.7.5 is old, so it would be worthwhile updating and licensing Editor 2.x as there are many improvements in that release.

Editor was never free - it has always been licensed software, even the 1.7.5 release. There was a third-party library which might be what you're referring to, but that hasn't been updated in almost a decade, so that's unlikely to be compatible still.
