Ability to sort financial data

Are there any plug-ins available to sort financial data like numbers with $ and %? The existing plug-ins do not sort when negative numbers are represented in parentheses. e.g ($100) or (1.5%).

I have just started using jQuery and datatables, so I cannot figure out how to customise these plug-ins.
