When search using combination of letters it breaks - DataTables warning: table id=example - Invalid

Any idea what to even look for? If I search sou it breaks with that error, and only that combination, soi,sow etc ok, if I have a gap then so ( so) it breaks but again doesn't with si, se etc . I have searched the database for %sou% and nothing stands out, lots of titles that have special characters like ( ) / - but these are throughout my database and come up for other searches fine. Any ideas? I really don't want to trial and error and delete one record at a time that come up with %sou%, as over 300.
