Upgrading jQuery with datatables

I have been using jQuery 1.7 with datatables 1.9.4 which was working perfectly fine apart from sorting issues in datatables.
But after upgrading to jQuery 3.7.1, the datatables is completely getting broken at multiple places.
So above version is compatible with new jQuery version or do I need to upgrade datatables also coz I am observing a lot of issue which I am unable to resolve or hardly even find.
All issues are with no exceptions or errors.
Also if required should I proceed using the latest datatables version 2.0.8?
