I use jQuery to color certain column with various colors. If I add a column, the wrong column is colored (because of course I never remember to modify the column number).

Possibly the easiest way would be to use columns.className - you can give each column a class and use that for the colouring.

There is columns.name which you can use as a column selector (column-selector).
